Audiomack Names Asake As Artiste Of The Year 2022
Nigerian artist Asake has been named the Artist of the Year for 2022 by the streaming music site Audiomack.
The recognition caps a phenomenal career that has earned the singer the reputation of being Nigeria’s biggest breakthrough star of 2022.
The honor comes on the heels of the success of his album, Mr. Money With The Vibe, which broke the record for the highest debut album by a Nigerian artist on Audiomack. 330 million streams have been made of the record thus far on the platform.
Along with being inducted into the YouTube Black Voices Fund Music Class of 2023, Asake, who is signed to YBNL Nation/Empire, will also receive the Artist of the Year award at the 2022 African Music Magazine Awards and the YBNL Nation/Empire label.
Asake entered Boomplay’s Golden Club a few months ago after achieving 100 million streams on the music streaming platform and landing a brand ambassador contract with sports entertainment business Parimatch. He was also named one of the top streamed artists in sub-Saharan Africa in 2022 by rival DSP Spotify.
Afrobeats and amapiano are creatively combined in Asake’s music. Numerous singles that have remained on the charts as a consequence of the experiments include “Omo Ope,” “Sungba,” “Peace Be Unto You (PBUY),” “Organise,” and “Joha.”
Additionally, he has agreements to work with Afrobeats legends Tiwa Savage, Fireboy DML, and Burna Boy.
According to Audiomack, Asake “redefined what it means to be a breakout artist this year” (link is external). “In the middle of the amapiano explosion and the continuous global success of West African music, Asake has mastered cross-cultural fusion like no other artist.” It’s simple to believe Asake’s meteoric rise is orchestrated, at least in part, after seeing him in prominent magazines and hearing his music at kickbacks and clubs. More accurately, the artist arrived just as the world was about to start dancing, seizing the Promethean fire.
